A Little Luxury For Me

Rekorderlig Winter Cider

November 2, 2015 by Erica Hughes 13 Comments

hot or cold ciderNow we are into November, it seems properly the time for some hot toddies (also known as hot totty and hot tottie if you are north of the border).  One of my favourite drink memories is of having hot toddies as the drinks on arrival at my sister’s winter wedding, and it seemed so much better than champagne.  Recently, Rekorderlig got in touch as asked me to try their winter cider.  They suggested that you could drink it hot or cold.  I’d not really thought about heating cider before, although I guess why not we have mulled wine or glühwein quite regularly through the winter.  So I decided to give it a try.

It was very easy to do: just pour into a pan and heat gently for a few minutes.  I added it to glasses (heat-resistant ones) with a little sliced orange.  It was lovely.  In fact, it slipped down very quickly and easily, possibly a little too quickly and easily. I guess you could add spices to the cider and mull it a little longer for a heavier taste, but I don’t think it needs it really.  This is one to drink on a chilly evening in front of a real fire with a cosy blanket if you can.

That sounds a great idea. I do love mulled wine, and I’ve had hot appley drinks as a non-alcoholic alternative before now (English Heritage always seems to have them in their cafes!) so cider would be a lovely twist on those.

warm sounds wonderful. I like a mulled wine so will try this. I haven’t drunk cider in a long time but this would tempt me back.

I love cider, though have never tried it warm. But I do loved mulled wine, so can safely assume will love this too!

Oooh warm cider, this sounds delicious and would be perfect to serve to guests as an alternative to wine around the Christmas period 🙂 x

Now I do like a good mulled cider it’s not as good as mulled wine but it’s delicious on a crisp winter’s day.

I had a lovely mulled hot drink yesterday it really helped soothe my aching muscles and put my mind at rest. Hot drinks are so therapeutic aren’t they?

I’m not a huge fan of cider but I’d quite like to try it warmed up, what a good idea! Adding some spices is a good idea, too. 🙂

We were only talking about how I dislike mulled wine, but love mulled cider the other day. Pretty much crucial if you’re at an outdoor Christmas event
