EMSCULPT NEO Review #Ad

May 10, 2024 by Erica Hughes Leave a Comment

emsculpt neoEMSCULPT NEO is considered a breakthrough in non-invasive body shaping.  It’s a revolutionary new procedure which simultaneously delivers heat and magnetic energy.  It aims to result in more fat reduction and more muscle growth compared to any single gold standard product.  That’s quite a claim, but I’d been impressed by EMSCULPT when I tried out a course of that treatment last year.  I was really interested to see what difference the heat would make and how the treatment had been developed to deliver EMSCULPT NEO.

I had my EMSCULPT NEO treatment at Dermoperfection.  Dermoperfection is the ultimate destination for premium cosmetic and aesthetic procedures in the Mailbox, Birmingham City Centre. With over 12 industry years of experience and more than 30,000 successful treatments performed, Dermoperfection deliver great results and a friendly, professional service.

How it works

In less than 4 minutes the temperature, in the targeted area of fat, reaches levels that cause permanent damage to fat cells.  As well as targeting the fat cells, the muscle temperature raises in a similar way to warming up before a workout.

The muscles in the treated area are contracted at intensities that aren’t achievable during routine exercise and yet you don’t need to put any effort in.  After treatment the fat cells are slowly removed from the body and the strained muscle fibres initiate a growth process.  This results in fat elimination and muscle building.

EMSCULPT NEO has more applicators available, so you can target more areas of your body.  You can choose to focus on your abdomen, buttocks, thighs, biceps, triceps or calves.  It’s suitable for patients with a BMI of up to 35 and there is no downtime afterwards.

How long does the treatment take?

The treatment typically takes around 30 minutes per session, and most patients require a series of treatments to achieve optimal results. The number of sessions needed depends on the patient’s individual goals and the areas being treated. I opted for a course of treatments for my tummy muscles and I had four sessions of half an hour each over a period of two weeks.

What’s the treatment like?

The paddles are attached to your body with a belt.  There’s a slightly different setup if you want to tackle your love handles, but it’s the same principle.  It’s quick and easy to get set up, which means that your appointment doesn’t drag on – you could easily fit this in during your lunch break say.  Then the temperature starts to rise and the pulses of magnetic energy start.  The heat feels pleasantly warm and is never uncomfortable.  The intensity of the pulses are taken up gradually. as you get used to the feel of the treatment.

There are three phases: pulses of activity, a sustained longer pulse and then the muscles are tapped to encourage lactic acid to disperse. I found it easy to build up to 100% intensity, possibly because I’ve previously done a course of EMSCULPT or maybe because I’m reasonably fit as I’m a regular swimmer. After the session there was a feeling of warmth in my abdomen for a while afterwards, but there was no muscle soreness or tiredness.

What were the results?

I can’t tell you how pleased I am.  I’ve had a number of unsolicited complements about weight loss by a number of different people in different circumstances.  I haven’t weighed myself, but I’ve clearly lose some of the bulk around my middle.  My clothes fit better and I can get into things I haven’t been able to for a while.  It’s also had a positive effect on my swimming as I do feel stronger in the core area. I’d certainly consider having the treatment on another area of my body as it’s been such a positive experience.

Disclosure:  I was given a course of treatment for the purposes of this review.

Dermoperfection Have Teamed Up With BTL Aesthetics To Offer EMFACE and EMSCULPT Neo #Ad

April 10, 2024 by Erica Hughes Leave a Comment

Dermoperfection, Birmingham’s leading medical skin and advanced aesthetics clinic, in partnership with BTL Aesthetics, for the exclusive launch of 2 brand new, pioneering treatments, EMFACE and EMSCULPT Neo.  I’ve previously tried out the EMSCULPT and EMSELLA treatments and it’s exciting to know that Dermoperfection are offering more of BTL Aesthetics’ groundbreaking treatment range.

I recently attended Dermoperfection’s EMFACE & EMSCULPT Neo Showcase and was thrilled to try out both new treatments.

emface at dermoperfectionWhat is EMFACE?

EMFACE is a revolutionary needle-free procedure for lifting and tightening the face.

Imagine sculpting your facial muscles without breaking a sweat. That’s precisely what EMFACE does, mimicking the workout effect of EMSCULPT but on your face! It’s like hitting the gym for your facial muscles, giving them a tone-up and boosting their density.

So, what’s the secret behind this revolutionary procedure? It’s all about HIFES energy – short for High-Intensity Facial Electrical Stimulation. This cutting-edge technology, combined with radiofrequency, works wonders by heating up the skin’s dermis, kickstarting collagen production for that coveted youthful glow.

Curious about the process? Picture this: you lie down comfortably as two or three pads are attached to your face, while a grounding pad does its thing on your back, all connected to a sleek machine. The HIFES energy pulses through, giving your facial muscles a workout that feels more like a light tap dance session.

I loved it and found that there was minimal discomfort. After my short session I had a healthy glow and I felt I look more healthy and less tired.

What is EMSCULPT Neo?

EMSCULPT Neo is a game-changer in body contouring that’s creating quite the buzz. This innovative device, the first of its kind, has earned the FDA stamp of approval for its unique ability to enhance muscle tone by 25% while reducing fat by 30%, all without the need for invasive procedures.

EMSCULPT Neo harnesses the power of HIFEM+ energy and radiofrequency technology to redefine your fitness journey. No more endless reps or grueling workouts – in just 30 minutes, you’ll experience muscle contractions equivalent to around 24,000 sit-ups. It’s like a shortcut to a stronger, more toned physique.

Forget about being limited to specific areas. With EMSCULPT Neo, you can target up to 10 different parts of your body, including those tricky trouble spots like the upper arms, abdomen, buttocks, thighs, and calves. Plus, it’s suitable for individuals with a BMI of up to 35, offering inclusivity for a wide range of patients.

But let’s talk results. Expect to see noticeable changes in your body composition with minimal discomfort and downtime. A recommended course of about four sessions is all it takes to witness muscle growth and fat reduction – with visible improvements kicking in within 12 weeks.

EMSCULPT Neo was very similar to EMSCULPT with the addition of heat to help target your fat.  I am having a course of EMSCULPT Neo currently, so I’ll be able to tell you more about the results soon.  So far I’m hopeful that it will help me achieve a more streamlined silhouette.

Disclosure:  I had free taster sessions of both treatments at Dermoperfection’s recent brand event.

9 Things the US Is Known for To Experience In 2026

January 10, 2024 by Erica Hughes 1 Comment

The United States is one of the most famous countries globally, known for its cultural symbols and iconic landmarks. Our knowledge of the US often comes from movies, TV shows, and music videos, showcasing its significant influence on popular culture. America has played a vital role in shaping various aspects of our shared culture. Whether you’re considering a visit or simply curious to explore, here are some notable aspects the USA is renowned for.

1. New York

Even if you haven’t visited New York, you will likely feel acquainted with it, given its prominent role in numerous TV shows, movies, and music videos. Exploring New York can make you feel like you’re on a movie set. The city boasts fame for various landmarks such as the Statue of Liberty, Times Square, Central Park, Grand Central Terminal, The Empire State Building, and, notably, those iconic yellow cabs.

2. Super Bowl

The Super Bowl takes centre stage in American sports and entertainment, bringing together people from all over the country to soak in the lively atmosphere. It serves as the grand finale of the football season, with two teams competing for the championship.

As time has passed, the Super Bowl has evolved from a beloved sporting event into a cultural phenomenon that defines America. The game garners millions of viewers, especially for its halftime show extravaganzas featuring some of the world’s most prominent performers. This spectacle has earned its place as one of the most-watched broadcasts in the United States.

More than just a sports event, the Super Bowl goes beyond fandom, uniting individuals from diverse backgrounds and embodying the true spirit of American culture.

3. Powerball

The United States is widely recognized for its popular lottery game, Powerball. This game, known for its massive jackpots, has become a cultural phenomenon, getting the attention of millions nationwide. With its simple premise, Powerball allows participants to select a set of numbers for a chance to win substantial prizes, creating a sense of anticipation. The frequent news coverage of record-breaking jackpots contributes to Powerball’s status as a prominent aspect of American culture. People trying to win Powerball from the UK can access this US lottery through a regulated provider, such as Lottoland.

4. McDonald’s

Whether you like it or not, America is widely known for its fast food, and among the most renowned is McDonald’s. Almost everyone has tasted a burger and fries under its iconic Golden Arches. Established in 1940, McDonald’s has expanded its reach to 100 countries globally, making it a prevalent fast-food choice worldwide.

5. Peanut Butter and Jelly

You can easily find lots of jelly, jam, and the like in many parts of the globe. But peanut butter might cost more, be scarce, or not be available at all. That’s because it’s a typical American food. People in the USA really like this simple and tasty sandwich. Peanut butter was made in the USA, which adds to its popularity and makes it less favoured elsewhere.

6. Hotdogs

Every country has special foods, and hotdogs take the spotlight for the USA. In Chicago, you’ll find hotdogs with many things on them (except ketchup – never ketchup!). In New York, it’s all about the simple dog. This American creation is a popular and affordable eat enjoyed by many. On Independence Day alone, about 150 million hotdogs, not to mention the rest of the year, are devoured.

This easy, on-the-go meal in a bun is one of the cheapest options and super convenient to grab from a street cart. Whether you’re walking or sitting, it doesn’t matter – the hotdog always comes out on top.

7. The Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon in Arizona is a fantastic Natural Wonder of the World. It attracts millions of visitors annually, offering various parks, waterfalls, and attractions. Interestingly, the Hualapai Indian Reservation is found within parts of the Canyon. This reveals that the Grand Canyon is a stunning natural wonder with amazing sights, animals, and landscapes. It is also home to some of the oldest people in the country, embodying significant national history.

8. Halloween

Every year on October 31st, communities across the United States burst with creativity and imagination as they embrace the long-standing Halloween holiday. Halloween is an exciting event that combines ancient traditions and modern celebrations to create a whirlwind of excitement.

This celebration, believed to have roots in Celtic harvest festivals, is marked by eerie decorations, costume parties, and the tradition of trick-or-treating. Children get the chance to dress up as their favourite characters.

If you’re not trick-or-treating or attending costume parties, you can enjoy spooky haunted houses and horror movies at the cinema. This once-a-year night provides a magical escape from the ordinary into a world of fantasy and spooky fun.

9. Easter Egg Hunt

The Easter Egg Hunt stands out as a beloved American tradition, uniting families and communities in the joyful spirit of Easter. Its origins link back to the well-known Christian holiday, representing rebirth and resurrection.

The main attraction of the occasion is the lively egg hunts, where happy children, equipped with baskets, eagerly seek hidden colourful eggs filled with candy or small toys.

This tradition promotes a feeling of togetherness and friendship while imparting important lessons to children about patience, teamwork, and the pleasures of exploration.

Cult 51 Festive Skincare Gift Sets Review #Ad

December 21, 2023 by Erica Hughes Leave a Comment

cult 51 gift setCult 51 asked me to try out some of their skincare products ahead of the festive season.  They are an interesting company and I was keen to see what I thought of the range.  If you’d like to browse through their gift setstheir gift sets, they are a great way for you to do the same.

By way of a bit of background the company was set up by chemist Richard Mears, who with three decades of experience formulating beauty products for top skincare brands, grew frustrated with creating multiple products for different facial areas. He believed in developing a streamlined “one-cream skin regime” for the face without compromising on ingredients.

Despite widespread skepticism in the beauty industry, Mears took on the challenge to prove his concept. After two years, the CULT51 multi-active facial Night Cream demonstrated its success, thanks to scientifically advanced ingredients formulated to support the skin’s natural regeneration. This achievement is reshaping premium skincare approaches.

cult 51 rangeThe Illuminating Day Cream has been my go-to day cream over the last few weeks.  I like to use a cream that protects my face from all that life and our environment throws at it, whilst working hard to improve my skin’s texture and condition.  A daily moisturizer that defends and hydrates for brighter skin fits the bill for me. This concentrated day moisturizer aims to minimize the appearance of aging signs and uneven pigmentation while safeguarding the skin from environmental and chronological aging. Its superior moisturizing ingredients address immediate skin dryness and provide anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits.  I’ve found it’s looked after my skin through this time of year – I’m either outside in the cold or in heated, air conditioned environments, neither of which are good for the skin – so, it’s good to have a bit of help.

At night I’ve been using the Rejuvenating Night Cream.  A multi-functional night cream designed to restore cellular health and enhance physical appearance. This high-potency night cream, backed by clinical evidence, visibly enhances signs of aging, skin smoothness, and tone, resulting in a more youthful, brighter, and rejuvenated complexion. The innovative 3D skincare approach operates on various levels to provide superior hydration, boost cellular efficiency, and promote healthy collagen production.  I’ve certainly found my skin looks refreshed in the morning.

I’ve been pairing the night cream up with the Neck and Décolletage Firming Cream.  A lightweight cream designed to deeply hydrate and firm the often overlooked, delicate skin around the neck and décolletage. Infused with botanical extracts, Moroccan argan nut oil, and a potent form of Vitamin C, this blend encourages skin cells to generate and sustain collagen, resulting in smoother skin and a significant reduction in the visibility of fine lines and wrinkles. It’s early days, but my neck does seem to be reaping the benefits of using this cream every evening.

Cult 51 do a great range of skincare and I think I’ll be using their products again in the future.  I’ve been very impressed.

Disclosure: I was sent some products to try, but my opinions are my own.

Sharpening The Mind With RINGANA #Ad

November 22, 2023 by Erica Hughes Leave a Comment

Ringana CerebroFor a while now I’ve been struggling a little with mental clarity – maybe it’s something to do with the menopause because it wasn’t a feature of my younger days.  Some days I find it difficult to concentrate at all, but most of the time I can concentrate for a while, but quickly get ‘burnt out’ for the day.  Taking a break for a while during the day helps, but I find that every time I go back to work, I can do a little less before I hit the wall again.  I wasn’t sure what to do about it.  Trying to work through it didn’t seem to work as I just got less and less productive.  But, taking a longer break didn’t seem to be the answer either and work just piled up in the interim.

So when RINGANA suggested I try some of their supplements, unsurprisingly I was taken by the idea of their CAPS Beauty & Hair product as I thought it might be useful.

CAPS cerebro for better memory

CAPS Cerebro is formulated to enhance learning and memory capabilities while supporting cognitive functions like retention. Bio-active micronutrients heighten sensory acuity, providing assistance during periods of heightened mental exertion.  I love the idea that anyone suffering from a loss of memory or a lack of concentration during menopause can achieve improvements with food supplements.  It’s difficult to maintain an optimal diet at all times, so we all need a little help.

I’ve been taking CAPS Cerebro for some weeks now and I have noticed a definite improvement.  I’ve been able to stop work because I’ve run out of time to do it in rather than because my brain is saying no.  This hasn’t been every day, but it has been some days rather than never like it was before.  I do feel I’ve had good results from taking the supplements.

CAPS beauty & hair for beautiful, full hair

CAPS Beauty & Hair In instances of genetic-hormonal or androgenetic hair loss, the culprit is the body’s own hormone, dihydrotestosterone (DHT). When DHT levels become imbalanced, it hinders hair production. In women, this often occurs when oestrogen levels fluctuate, such as during menopause. In women, the noticeable effect is primarily thinning hair on the top of the head. CAPS Beauty & Hair ingredients enhance the appearance of hair, strengthen tissue, fortify nails, and, notably during menopause, promote fullness and resilience in hair through the inclusion of an extract of cell cultures from Ajuga reptans (bugleherb) and apple fruit extract.

Now I don’t have thinning hair, but I do have much thinner hair than I used to as a teenager and young adult.  I can’t easily wear my hair with a hair clip any more as it seems to slide off because there isn’t the volume to grip.  I’m hoping that CAPS Beauty & Hair will help thicken up and enhance the volume of my hair.  It’s a bit early to tell if it’s working yet (hair grows at 0.35mm a day), but the capsules are easy and pleasant to take.

Greater overall well-being with CAPS fem

CAPS fem

CAPS Fem serve as ideal daily companions for women, offering effective solutions for challenges of all magnitudes. The key lies in the incorporation of highly potent natural ingredients:

  • Damiana, renowned as a natural aphrodisiac since Mayan times, provides a subtle boost to female sexuality through its extract.
  • Pine bark extract proves to be an all-encompassing contributor to women’s health, addressing various phases of life. Its impacts on menstruation and menopause have been extensively studied.
  • The new formulation boasts an increased amount of shatavari root extract, a truly versatile element for every stage of life. It significantly enhances overall well-being, particularly during menopause.

I’m looking forward to trying out CAPS Fem  – I didn’t want to try too many supplements at once because I wanted to separate out the results.  I think this could be very useful to me.

RINGANA’s product range with its radically effective ingredients that can support general well-being and/or relieve various symptoms is ideal for anyone wanting to offset the effects of the menopause or simply rebalance their bodies.  I also love the packaging – the cute little tins with pastel coloured labels are pretty as well as practical.

Established in 1996, RINGANA stands as a trailblazing Austrian company within the fresh skincare and food supplements sector.  The pillars of RINGANA’s triumph rest on freshness, effectiveness, and sustainability. All products are vegan, devoid of artificial preservatives or additives. Manufactured at RINGANA’s state-of-the-art facility in St. Johann in der Haide, they are dispatched to customers in 34 countries worldwide.

Renovating Your Home: Tips for a Stress-Free Experience

October 2, 2023 by Erica Hughes Leave a Comment

Home renovation can be a challenging and stressful task. The projects might take up space, require cash investment, and are often time-consuming. When living in a fast-paced, developed region like Miami, remodeling can become even more overwhelming.

If you’re feeling intimidated by your upcoming home renovation, some planning might come in handy. Preparing for the experience can help you organize the process and stay relatively calm. After all, this renovation and remodeling will increase your everyday convenience and increase the value of your Miami real estate.

Miami’s real estate market is noticeably active at present. Housing prices and rent are rising, making the region more expensive. If you already own property here, a few renovations can make an excellent investment. Currently, Miami ranks among the top US cities with the highest ROI on home renovation.

You might be looking to take advantage of this marketing situation. Alternatively, some folks may want to renovate for the sake of comfort. In any case, the tips below can help you lower the overall stress of this phase:

1. Consider Temporary Relocation

Home renovation projects can take a toll on the homeowners’ mental and physical health. Just a few of the possible issues may include:

  • Loud noises such as hammering, drilling,
  • Exposure to harmful substances such as chemicals, asbestos, mold, mildew, etc.
  • Risk of injuries from equipment like wires, ladders, scaffolding, etc.
  • Risk of plumbing issues due to any mistakes in the work
  • Fire hazards from power tools, flammable materials, heat sources, and so on

Overall, it’ll be much less stressful to temporarily move from your home during major renovations. Contact a reliable Miami local moving company to help with the logistics of temporary relocation. This way, you’ll have a comfortable space to rest after the stress of overlooking renovations all day.

2. Budget and Plan First

Outline a budget and plan out your project well in advance. These are two essential steps you want to take before any of the work starts. A budget will help to achieve the renovation within your means. While planning and budgeting, you can also look up some ways to cut home renovation costs whenever possible. Here are a few steps to help with your plan of action:

  • Make a list of the projects you have in mind.
  • Prioritize the different tasks according to requirements and budget.
  • Stay realistic about the results; consider several possible obstacles, limitations, and hurdles beforehand.
  • Research the expected costs of labor, materials, and sundry expenses.
  • Set a margin for unexpected costs, accidents, repairs, etc.
  • After you get an idea about the total expected cost, break it into smaller amounts; this way, you’ll have some manageable financial goals and can avoid excessive expenditure.

3. Hire Professionals

If you’re considering a major home renovation, call in the professionals. Hiring the right team for the job can cost a pretty penny, but it’s worth the investment.

Some homeowners might try to save money by going down the DIY route. However, this can cause more stress and ultimately more expenses as well. There are many reasons why DIY home improvement projects are a bad idea, but the main ones include:

  • Having to buy or rent tools and other equipment
  • Higher risk of causing even more damage
  • Not getting professional results
  • Increased stress and anxiety
  • Higher risk of injuries and accidents

At the end of the day, it’s probably cheaper and less stressful to hire professional contractors or companies who have professional staff on hand.

But the work doesn’t end once the renovation is complete. Renovations often leave behind a significant amount of dirt, debris, and leftover materials that need to be properly disposed of.

Speaking of professional work, one important aspect of home renovation that often gets overlooked is waterproofing. If you’re upgrading your roof or certain exterior areas, looking into self-adhesive waterproofing options can save you time and hassle. These easy-to-apply solutions help prevent leaks and water damage without the need for complicated installation. Plus, they offer long-term protection, making them a smart investment for any renovation project.

This cleanup process can be overwhelming, and it’s not advisable to handle it on your own. Instead, consider bringing in professionals for post-renovation cleaning. A cleaning company can efficiently clean up your space, ensuring that your home is spotless and ready to be enjoyed.

However, if hiring a cleaning service isn’t your preference, another option is to rent a dumpster. You can find rental dumpster delivery and collection near you by searching online, making it convenient to dispose of renovation waste. Once you have filled the dumpster with debris, the company will collect it and ensure that the waste is properly disposed of at a landfill, taking the burden off your shoulders.

4. Stick to a Timeline

Home renovations aren’t a comfortable phase of life, which is why a timeline is so important in such cases. With a timeline, you’ll have a better idea of the start and end of each project. It’s even better if you can have a deadline for every smaller task within a large project. For instance, you may set separate time ranges for demolishing a wall or completing a fresh coat of paint.

If you’re ready to set a timeline for those renovations, here are some helpful tips to consider:

  • Stay realistic with the timeline; collaborate with your professional team and see what’s workable in a certain amount of time.
  • Do not try to fulfill a lot of tasks in a single day; this may result in higher stress and burnout.
  • Always leave some wiggle room or extra time for each project; you never know when unexpected delays might come up.
  • Divide projects into smaller tasks to make the goals more achievable; for instance, divide the kitchen renovation into painting walls, installing countertops, changing the cabinets, etc.
  • Keep up healthy communication with the workers and contractors.
  • Keep track of any delays, changes, or other setbacks; you may have to adjust the timeline due to them.

Summer With Ringana #Ad

August 14, 2023 by Erica Hughes Leave a Comment

Recently I heard about RINGANA, a pioneering Austrian company in the natural skin care and food supplements industry. RINGANA was founded in 1996 and now employs over 500 people. The cornerstones of RINGANA’s success are: freshness, efficacy and sustainability. The products are vegan and contain no artificial preservatives or additives. They are manufactured at RINGANA’s new facility in St. Johann in der Haide and are shipped from there to international customers in 34 countries.

Ringana Fresh SunscreenEarlier in the ‘summer’ they contacted me and asked if I would like to try out some of their products.  I was keen to try them because I loved the idea of the freshness and sustainability of the products (also Austria is one of my favourite countries, so that was a factor too). I tried out their FRESH sunscreen SPF 50.  The idea behind the product is to provide an extra serving of sun protection to exposed parts of the body which are particularly vulnerable to the sun –  such as the nose, ears, back of the neck and shoulders. It’s also formulated to tie in with FRESH sunscreen SPF 50 as a perfect complement to FRESH sunscreen SPF 20.

The water-in-oil emulsion provides instant protection against harmful UVA & UVB rays, sunburn and premature ageing, and it relies on natural, mineral sun protection filters – zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. Seasonally limited FRESH sunscreen SPF 50 is entirely free of microplastic and synthetic UV filters. This nano-free, waterproof suncream contains an effective natural antioxidant complex based on karanja oil, aloe vera and oat extract which also strengthens the skin barrier and regenerates. Aloe vera, ectoin and bisabolol soothe inflamed skin, and relieve mild redness and irritation.

I actually used it as an all over sunscreen rather than just focusing on vulnerable areas.  It has a thicker consistency than many sunscreens, but that means it’s easier to know where you have applied it.  It goes on surprisingly easy despite the thicker consistency and I felt confident that I’d got a good application.  It seemed to work well.  There sadly haven’t been that many chances to really put it to the test this year, but I haven’t got burnt and my skin feels good when I’m using it and afterwards.  It has a pleasant smell

ringana fresh light legsA blast of freshness for tired legs: FRESH light legs

Lots of people suffer more from heavy legs when the weather warms up, but this may also be a problem after a hike, or after standing or sitting for a long time at work. Thanks to powerful magnesium salt, Ringana’s new FRESH light legs is formulated to relieve water retention instantly, making tired legs, ankles and feet feel lighter. Plant extracts from horse chestnut and cypress stimulate microcirculation, and this in turn boosts circulation. Mint and ginger deliver instant refreshment, while Porphyridium cruentum alga reduces swelling and skin irritation. This revitalising spray has a relaxing effect, and noticeably soothes the leg muscles.

My legs are generally quite robust and don’t get tired easily – must be all those lengths in the pool.  But, I tried FRESH light legs out after a particularly long day of walking, including quite a few hills.  My legs were very grateful and I did feel reinvigorated and up for a night out (albeit a fairly relaxed one) afterwards.

RINGANA are a very interesting brand and are clearly delivering effective, sustainable products.  I think I’ll be trying them again in the future.

Bistrot Pierre, Birmingham #Ad

July 20, 2023 by Erica Hughes Leave a Comment

view from bistrot pierre birmingham I’d heard good things about Bistrot Pierre, from friends who’d dined there, and I loved the location on the canal, by Gas Street Basin in Birmingham.  So I was delighted when I got invited along to try out their French influenced cuisine.  Bistrot Pierre has a number of locations around the country, but the Birmingham restaurant is a joy with its Grade II listed building, with dining spread over two floors, plus a bar and heated roof terrace.  It’s easy to get to as you can access the restaurant from Gas Street, just off Broad Street, or via the canal by strolling over from the Mailbox.

french onion soupWe were shown to a table with a fabulous view of the canal, in a gorgeous room with full height glazing.  There were quite a few people dining and it was nice to see a real mix of people from families and couples to people dining alone.  There were plenty of people-watching opportunities to enjoy as there was a steady flow of people enjoying a summer evening on the canal. We decided to pick from the Menu Pierre which is a good value 2 or 3 course menu, with a good handful of choices for each course.  I picked the Calamari and my companion chose the Soup du Jour which was French Onion.

Calamari

We got off to a good start.  The Calamari were tasty and were cooked well – I think it’s a good test of a restaurant as it’s easy to over cook and then it’s too tough to be pleasant.  These were just right and I really enjoyed them.  I suck a taste of the soup and the French Onion Soup was just as you want it too with a wonderful caramelised onion flavour.

steak frites
For my main I choose Steak Frites which consists of a prime, pasture-fed British bavette cut minute steak. It’s pan-seared, served pink, with dressed leaves, pommes frites and peppercorn sauce.  The steak was thinly cut and tender.  The frites provided the perfect crispy contrast.  The sauce was flavoursome and added that hint of spice.

Chicken DianeThe Chicken Diane was a good choice.  The tender chicken came in a flavour-packed, creamy Diane sauce.  The dauphinoise potatoes melted in the mouth and the green beans added a needed bit of crunch.

Crème Brûlée
I couldn’t resist picking out the Crème Brûlée for my dessert.  It’s a real favourite of mine and it’s certainly something I’m looking to see on a French menu as it’s such a classic.  As you’d hope this had the crisp topping with the unctuous vanilla cream underneath.

panna cotta
My companion picked out the vanilla Panna Cotta with a mixed berry compôte for dessert. The Panna Cotta had a silky, creamy texture and sweet taste.  The berry compote provided a nice touch of acidity to cut through that and the pairing worked well.

We really enjoyed our meal and will certainly be going back there again soon.  It’s a place that I know we have both recommended to others already.  I can see Bistrot Pierre being a firm favourite haunt.

Review: Emsculpt at Dermoperfection #Ad

June 26, 2023 by Erica Hughes Leave a Comment

A few months ago I told you about EMSCULPT at Dermoperfection. Even after a trial session, I was able to notice a difference to the strength of my core muscles when I did my regular swimming sessions.  So I was keen to see what results I would get with a full course of EMSCULPT at Dermoperfection.

emsculptWhat is EMSCULPT?

EMSCULPT is a non-invasive technology that uses high-intensity focused electromagnetic (HIFEM) technology to stimulate muscle contractions, which leads to increased muscle tone and strength. This technology was first introduced in 2018 and has quickly gained popularity as a non-surgical alternative to traditional body contouring procedures.

During an EMSCULPT treatment, a special device is used to deliver electromagnetic energy to targeted areas of the body, such as the abdomen, buttocks, arms, or thighs. This energy causes the muscles in the area to contract, which can lead to increased muscle mass and improved muscle tone over time.

How long does the treatment take?

The treatment typically takes around 30 minutes per session, and most patients require a series of treatments to achieve optimal results. The number of sessions needed depends on the patient’s individual goals and the areas being treated. I opted for a course of treatments for my tummy muscles and I had four sessions of half an hour each over a period of two weeks.

emsculpt at dermoperfectionWhat’s the treatment like?

The paddles are attached to your body with a belt.  So it’s quick and easy to set up.  Then the intensity is taken up to 40%, the minimum needed for results.  Gradually it’s increased beyond as you get used to the feel of the treatment.  I started off in the 60-70% intensity range.

There are three phases: pulses of activity, a sustained longer pulse and then the muscles are tapped to encourage lactic acid to disperse.  At 40% it felt like I had a vibrating phone on my stomach, but the higher intensities are obviously stronger than that.  Obviously, you can have a say over the level of intensity you are comfortable with. I found my first session with an intensity of 65% quite challenging.  It was a bit like being in early childbirth labour.  I had a contraction, which I breathed through and then there’s a pause.  I could really feel my muscles working.  As soon as the session is over and the paddles are removed, you are good to go on your way.  There’s no downtime.  What surprised me is that there was no discomfort afterwards.  If you step up your workout at the gym, you know about it a day or two later, but with EMSCULPT there was none of that.

I was expecting the second session to feel like the first, but my muscles had obviously responded to the challenge and whilst I could feel the pulses, it was easy.  In fact, I very nearly fell asleep during this session and I wished I’d gone for a higher intensity.  In later sessions, I chose to up the intensity and ended up at 85%.  That level was fine for me as I’d worked up to it.

What were the results?

EMSCULPT claim their treatment leads to an increase of muscle mass of 16% and a 19% reduction in body fat.  Do I think I achieved this?  Yes I do and possibly a bit more.  My abdomen definitely has a more defined muscle tone.  I feel stronger when I do things that engage my core and it’s been obvious that I’m stronger in that area when I’m swimming.  The flab has reduced too.  I can fit into my clothes a bit better.  My waistline is trimmer and I can do up zips a lot easier on tighter fitting clothes.  I’ve had some compliments too about losing weight.  I haven’t actually lost weight, but I have toned and trimed my waist.

I also teamed this treatment up with a course EMSELLA for my pelvic floor muscles and that is a great combination to work on all your core muscles.

Would I have the treatment again in the future?

Yes absolutely.  I’ll definitely be going back for top up treatments to keep the results.  But, I’m also considering having a course of EMSCULPT for a different part of my body – I’m thinking my upper arms could benefit most or maybe my inner thighs.

Disclosure:  I was given a course of treatment for the purposes of this review.

Choosing New Shoes with Hotter Footprint™ Technology #Ad

May 5, 2023 by Erica Hughes 1 Comment

footprint technologyLast week I went along to Hotter Shoes‘ store in Solihull to try out their Hotter Footprint™ scanner and take a look at the new spring styling.  When you step onto a special scanner, it then takes a 3D image of your feet. In an instant, the scanner is able to analysis your size, fit and arch type. Then taking these three dimensions into account it can make recommendations. It’s a great way to identify the perfect shoe for you.

If you’d like to see the process in action, I’ve got a video of me getting my feet scanned in the Hotter Shoes’ Solihull store.

As you can see it’s a really quick and easy process and you have a very visual representation on your foot and suitable styles to look at.  Armed with that knowledge you can shop for shoes in confidence.  But, obviously the Hotter Shoes’ staff will guide you through trying on your shoes and making sure you get the best and most comfortable fit possible.  One of the things I love about Hotter Shoes is that the staff are willing to take the time to help you and provide a service that’s way beyond just getting the right sized shoes from the store room.

So the big question is what sort of shoes am I looking for today?

I like to go out for a walk and pop into local cafes and pubs along the way.  The difficulty usually is whether to go for full on walking boots or make do with trainers.  Often though I’m not doing serious hill walking, just pottering down canal tow paths and the like.  To be honest, I wanted something in between that was practical, but still smart enough to go into those places without feeling out of place.  So how did I get on?

I did get tempted by the Hotter Sport Collection which has some great looking, but very practical styles for the leisure athlete.  They’d look great down the gym or in the park, but have the good looks you want for more social occasions too.  I decided though that I wanted something more geared up to walking and being outdoors in the countryside.

Hotter Shoes do a great range of walking trainers that are designed for just that sort of thing.  I quite liked the look of the Mist GTX® Shoes.  With Stability+ technology to supporting the heel and an energy-returning FreeSole, there’s plenty of support for my feet.  There’s also a dual-density OrthoLite ® foam insole which provides cushioning.  I love that the breathable GORE-TEX product technology, will keep me dry if I do get caught out in the rain. The Mist GTX also has a cushioned collar and tongue, padding at the ankle, and a breathable, waterproof textile lining.

The Mist GTX comes in four colours: Navy Multi, Khaki Multi, Rust Multi and Smokey Grey Multi.  I was tempted by the Navy because it would go with loads of things, but also because I loved the brighter blue stitching detailing.  The Rust was another contender because I loved the bright colour.  In the end though I decided the Khaki was the one for me because it would go with lots of clothes and it had a similar brighter stitching detail.

The Hotter Footprint™ scanner had me down as a standard fit and a size 6, but with the recommendation that for certain styles a 6.5 might be better.  The Mist GTX was one of those styles because of the cushioning, padding and linings.  The size 6 did fit, but I did think it might not work as well if I was wearing thicker socks. So I tried on the 6.5 size too and felt these were a slightly better fit for me.

I think they look great on.  Practical and stylish too.  What do you think?

I’ve been able to put them too the test since.  I took them out on a day out when I was on my feet for most of the day.  Some of it was town walking, but I also walked on footpaths in parks and in a forest.  What was really impressive was that they needed no wearing in, they were comfortable from the off and throughout the day.  I always felt confident that they were up to the conditions even on some muddy and steeper sections of track.  And I was happy to wear them into pubs and cafes.  I’m very happy with them.
