Is your living room looking a bit bland or cluttered? Is it going unused? Would you like to make it a bit more inviting but you don’t have a lot of cash to spend on it? It’s actually a lot easier to liven up a room on very little money than you might think. Here’s how.
Suites
Changing up the furniture in the room can be a good place to start. If your old lounges are falling apart, consider replacing them with something more modern. Begin by investigating leather couches and lounge suites from a specialist outlet like Super Amart and weigh your options from there. Have a style for the room in mind before you go shopping and do a bit of research online.
Light
Light is another way to change up your living room. This is something not a lot of people think about because people don’t want glare on their TV screens but, if you go about it the right way, you can avoid that entirely. Casting the right light in the room will make it feel larger and airier without making it hard to catch up on your favourite shows. You can accomplish this through placement of lamps for the evenings and thinner curtains over the windows during the day to let natural light in.
Personality
Another way to give your living room a makeover is to start inserting a few personal touches. Have some fun with patterns. You can get new covers for your lounges that will give them some charm – the same goes for cushions. What about the walls? Open the room up further with a mirror or maybe some decorations – art, a shelf to hold a small plant, a framed poster of your favourite film… whatever you like! Don’t be afraid to add more you; this is your home, after all.
Create a Space
You could even consider changing part of the room into something else entirely. Create a reading nook near a window with a comfy chair and a bookcase, or invent a new miniature home office area with a large open-front cupboard acting as a desk and a comfortable chair in place of the traditional desk chair.
Flooring
The floor is another area that gets overlooked an awful lot and it’s an area that’s so easy to spruce up! All you need to add is an eye-catching rug. That’s it! Find a nice shape, size and style that doesn’t break your budget or the room’s aesthetic and throw it in there. Rugs, if chosen properly, can become the focal point of any room they’re placed in. You’d be surprised how much of a difference they can make and they’ll protect your carpet too!
Giving your living room a makeover seems like a really expensive project but, if you’re thrifty and plan ahead, it doesn’t have to be at all. Work with what you’ve got and make it work as best you can before you start branching out into more expensive territory. What are your favourite living room makeover tips?
