I like to have some little hideaways in my garden, little spots for me to stop and think or admire plants. Walking around is therapeutic, but sometimes you just want to be still and think, or still and admire. To do that best you need somewhere to sit and you don’t want to be dragging around a garden chair or whatever to allow for that. That’s why at various points in my garden I’ve set up some places that will let me do just that.
In each of these spots I’ve either set up a table and chairs, or some sort of perch, or a garden bench. I’ve been on the look out for another bench for a favourite corner and have my eye on one from Outdoorartpros.com as they have quite a selection and they are just at little bit different from the normal sort of thing. A bench is great as there is room for one or two or even occasionally three to sit in comfort. There’s usually an arm to rest on and if I’m alone, there’s room for my book or my drink.
The best sort of day for me is sitting outside in the sun, or if it’s very hot I prefer the shade, with my book and something chilled. On cooler days I sometimes work outside with a jumper on and a blanket over my legs if necessary. There’s something about being outside that sparks my creativity, blows away the cobwebs in my mind and makes me feel a lot more focused on my work. To keep me company then I’d go for a nice hot cup of tea, which serves double purpose as refreshment and a hard warmer.
After a busy day an evening stroll around the garden is the perfect way to unwind. I like to potter around looking at plants, smelling the evening fragrance of the flowers, pulling out the odd weed and I usually end up sitting in one of my hideaways to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy it all. How do you like to enjoy your garden? Do you have a favourite spot to sit and linger as the light fades? Or do you prefer to sit out during the heat of the day?
